Tools I use for repairs

When it comes to repairs, having a good set of tools is key. Yes, you can solve most of your problems with a phillips head screwdriver (star or plus head screwdrivers). However, when it comes to smaller/ difficult devices, manufacturers (people who make these devices) tend to use many different types of screws. Which in turns, makes it exceedingly difficult for you to repair your beloved devices. So, by having a good tool kit in your arsenal is very handy.

My go-to kit is an iFixit Pro Tech Tool Kit and it is well and utterly amazing. It has all the tools I need to repair or to open up all my devices. I mainly work on laptops and desktops and I must say, this tool kit (in my opinion) the best toolkit that is currently out in the market. It offers pretty much all the driver bits you might need for most modern devices such as Androids, iPhones, Tablets, Laptops and Desktops. See below for pictures of my current tool kit.

I used to work off a discount store toolkit (pound store), they sold a pack on mini screwdriver set which only had phillips head and flat head screwdriver bits and a small tweezers. While trying to repair my own laptop, I really did find it exceedingly difficult as they were not magnetic tip and the tweezers…. well they were shocking to use. As soon as you pick it up, it breaks. Going from or jumping from a cheap toolkit to a good quality but fairly priced kit was the best choice I have made. I will be making some other purchases such as a magnetic mat to hold my screws.

All information about the iFixit toolkit can be found on the iFixit website (WARNING - We/I are not affiliated with iFixit. This is not a sponsored piece).

My favourite tools to use when taking apart my laptops or computers is the “Jimmy tool” (big knife looking thing in the third picture). I use this to unclip plastic clips on laptops and prying open monitors without damaging it. Other tools within this kit is the screwdriver set “Mako Precision Bit Set” (Fourth picture). It has so many bits (64bits) which can be used on all devices including apple devices. See pictures below for the full list of specifications.

This is a short piece to show you what tools I would use to repair my devices with. Let me know about your tools, what do you use? Do you have any recommendations on what tools I should use?
